May 2024: Monthly Highlights from the ILLUMINATION Editorial Team
Today, I find myself feeling disheartened by the recent news of Medium terminating the contract of our dedicated editor and boost nominator, Aiden. The reasoning behind this decision baffles me. While I understand that not every story of mine requires boosting, the dismissal of a valuable contributor raises serious concerns. Consequently, I have decided to cancel my Friends of Medium subscription and will not be recommending it to my audience. I also intend to transition my Health and Science publication to Substack, where I will share more details once I feel more positive. Below, you can find Aiden’s thoughtful open letter.
Transitioning Away from Boost Nominations
An Open Letter to My Mentor, Dr. Mehmet Yildiz, Chief Editor of ILLUMINATION Integrated Publications
Dr. Yildiz has articulated a compelling argument that every writer should take the time to absorb. Unfortunately, my faith in this platform has dwindled, as it has exposed me to various scams, imposed censorship on my writings, and continues to limit the visibility of accomplished authors along with a diverse array of voices.
A Time Investment That Yielded Minimal Returns
Dear valued readers, I have curated a collection of 167 lists to provide new readers with diverse topic options. Our editorial team is overwhelmed with tasks, including onboarding new writers and managing hundreds of draft submissions. Nevertheless, I dedicate time to highlight stories that deserve attention, particularly those that may have been overlooked. Aiden, our diligent editor, typically showcases new stories that lack boosting and those that have not received adequate exposure.
Here is his latest work:
Look What Aiden Discovered Today — Episode #184
This episode features my favorite stories along with community-nominated pieces aimed at the dedicated readers of ILLUMINATION Publications.
Daily Insight: I have recently begun introducing boosted stories into our collections to enhance their visibility, as they are currently receiving minimal engagement. I plan to integrate previous months into forthcoming collections, offering one month per collection to present exceptional stories. Our editorial team invests immense effort into curating these narratives; they are truly a labor of love. Personally, I do not have any boosted stories, but I enjoy reading and promoting them.

Here is a selection of our edited stories that have not been boosted.
A Gift of Curated Stories for Friends of Medium
For good reason, my editorial team and I have committed over 300 hours to refining these exceptional narratives.
Aiden has ingeniously compiled all his collections into a single narrative. I will adopt a similar approach to facilitate easier access and sharing.

Does morality possess a biological foundation?
Recently, I have become increasingly aware of the significant issue surrounding abortion in the United States. I contemplate whether this matter could be approached more effectively.
Navigating the Complexities of Reproductive Rights: An In-Depth Examination of Abortion Access in the U.S.
Upon request, I documented the policies of Australian states in this regard, hoping to provide guidance for other nations. The regulations in Australia are relatively straightforward and do not provoke as much controversy as those in the U.S.

Though abortion is legalized nationwide, notable differences in regulations and access exist, which I felt compelled to highlight.

Brief Updates on Publication Activities and News
Introducing a New Publication: Substack on ILLUMINATION
We are excited to announce a new publication within the ILLUMINATION network. This unique platform aims to support Substack writers, and I proudly serve on the editorial team. Here are the initial guidelines.
Dr. Yildiz elaborated on the mission and approach for writers.
Every Writer Needs a Newsletter
Discover why we established a new Substack publication on Medium and how we will support writers through enhanced collaboration.
Though this platform is new to me, I am committed to learning quickly. As a starting point, I created my first Substack post, which includes the submission guidelines for my Health and Science publication, alongside a brief narrative to keep the momentum going. I believe I am the inaugural contributor of this publication, marking a significant milestone. I eagerly await more contributions from fellow writers.
Here is the link to my initial post:

Expanding opportunities for writers by embracing both Medium and Substack.
It appears that writer introductions and interviews are not being effectively disseminated. Our editorial team believes they are wasting time connecting writers with readers through publication activities.
Why Does Medium Block My Interviews with Influential Writers?
In light of recent concerns and inquiries from various writers, ILLUMINATION editors confirmed that they do not alter paywall settings. You are welcome to challenge this assertion if you can.

Why My Wise Mentors Advised Me 80% Substack, 15% NewsBreak, 5% Medium for My Writing Efforts
I have touched upon the subject of boosting and shared my experiences to initiate a discussion, as it seems to have been exaggerated by many writers, who treat it as a guaranteed method for audience growth. I welcome your thoughts and would appreciate any corrections to my understanding.
No Boosted Stories So Far for Me, and Here’s Why I No Longer Care About It
My new publication, Health and Science, is making a significant impact and is growing as rapidly as its larger counterpart, ILLUMINATION. I wrote my first newsletter today, and it garnered thousands of views in May 2024. You can read about the developments from my first successful newsletter.
